Welcome to gardendwellers FARM - Your North Dakota Connection to Fresh and Freeze Dried Culinary Herbs

Delivering high quality cooking herbs and fresh educational opportunities throughout North Dakota, we're proud to have been serving our customers with the best in fresh herbs since 2002.

gardendwellers FARM is North Dakota's largest herb farm. Owned and operated by Barry and Holly Mawby, we are located in north central North Dakota, only 23 miles from the geographic center of North America.

We sell only the highest quality  freeze dried herbs and blends year round.  We offer over 16 varieties of herbs for your cooking pleasure.  We sell wholesale, retail and direct to consumers in quantities from one ounce to many pounds.

Although not certified organic, we use every organic principle and growing practice possible and appropriate for our farm.  We use sustainable methods including cover crops, green manures, crop rotations and mulch.  In our over 17 years in business, we have never used a non-organic, Non-NOP approved chemical on our herbs.  If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us about our growing practices.

Barry, Holly, and their son Adam enjoy cooking with their herbs and adding them to other fresh, local ingredients to prepare meals that are well seasoned and nutritious.  Adam began cooking when he was very young and has prepared items as unusual as pickled cattails and Norwegian Kransekaka.  Holly enjoys finding new ways to use herbs in everyday dishes.  Barry loves cooking on the grill and being the official taste tester for the new recipes being tried by the family.

Barry is the FARM’s primary maintenance person.  He is Head Tiller, Mower, Constructor, and Controller.  Without his hard work, the things we do would not be possible.  During harvest, Barry is in charge of harvesting the majority of herbs.

Holly is head of operations, handling the scheduling of crops, office work, invoicing, billing, and marketing.

Adam is Chief Thought Leader and Handiwork.  His ideas keep the FARM young and efficient.  More than once he has stopped his parents from making decisions that could have cost the farm time or money.  Adam  assists with orchard maintenance, sales, special projects and events.  He is also the owner of our sister venture, gardendwellers RANCH where he and his wife Apryl raise grass fed sheep and chickens.  You can find his products and information here gardendwellers RANCH

The farm has a one acre orchard with a plethora of fruits for our own use.  The orchard also serves as a living lab for visitors to see, taste, and learn about the multitude of small fruits that grow in North Dakota.

Joining in the family operation are three key family members.  Ida, the cocker spaniel, is the official ‘rodent-sniffer-outer’  also known as Special Black Cocker Ops Commander, and she assists with stress relief.  The main pest control for the farm is Millie.  Millie is an Australian Shepherd-German Shepherd cross who excels at mouse control, snake killing, and bird chasing.  She is a working dog and takes her job seriously, protecting the farm and family from all manner of creatures.  Last but not least is Mable, our youngest cocker and in training to be a Special Black Cocker Ops dog and assistant with rodent control and stress relief just like Ida.  She's doing well in the boot camp academy and we're looking forward to great things from her.  All dogs are trained in dog sports with Ida holding an AKC Rally Novice title and Millie working at her Agility titles.  All three dogs have passed their Canine Good Citizen test as well as basic and advanced obedience.
